Vault Map

A guide to navigating the vault. The root-level files are messy and overlapping by design — they're raw thinking. This document maps their contents to where the ideas live in organized form, and flags what content exists only in root dumps and hasn't been processed yet.

Root-Level Files: What They Contain

dump.md

A dense technical brain dump covering: - Scheduler / Greedy Handover algorithm logic (organized version: NewOpenAstro/Tech/Algorithms/Handover.md) - Heterogeneous stacking pipeline table (organized: Algorithms/Heterogenous Stacking.md) - Cloud infra design: FaaS (Lambda), NoSQL (DynamoDB/Firestore), SQS message queues, S3 storage — this cloud-scale architecture is NOT yet captured in NewOpenAstro — the MVP guide uses SQLite; this is Phase 3+ thinking - BOINC distributed compute for reprojection/transit fitting — also not yet in NewOpenAstro; worth capturing when scaling - NoSQL data model: Nodes, Missions, Tasks, Artifacts collections — distinct from the PostgreSQL schema in Details on componets.md

massive info dump.md

Contains: - Research links on FRB optical counterparts, Sony Starvis sensors, Project PANOPTES links - Astrometric parallax pipeline (step-by-step for measuring NEO distances with 2+ nodes) — unique content, not elsewhere - Modular build phases (Phase 1: local simulation → Phase 2: two-node sync → Phase 3: global scale) — matches mvp_server_guide.md - Petascale data handling strategies (FITS compression, metadata separation, distributed CPU via BOINC) — partially unique

This is of substance.md

A literature review of distributed telescope projects. Key papers: - Dragonfly Telephoto Array (Abraham & van Dokkum, 2014) — stacking from distributed lenses - LAST telescope (Ben-Ami et al., 2023) — 48 CMOS telescopes, calibration challenges - Project PANOPTES (Guyon et al., 2014) — citizen-science distributed exoplanet network - ESA hybrid CCD/CMOS NEO array — 1m CCDs for depth + 0.6m CMOS for speed - Drizzle algorithm (Fruchter & Hook, 2002) — pixel combining method - Detailed CCD/CMOS heterogeneous stacking pipeline (flux calibration, WCS alignment, SNR-weighted stacking) - Asteroid reflectance spectroscopy methods (Star Analyser 100, multi-band simultaneous photometry) - This is the best single literature reference in the vault. File: keep, also see Resources/telescope_network_papers.md

Science 2.md

Covers: multi-messenger astronomy (LIGO/kilonova follow-up), exoplanet TTV characterization, Rubin survey follow-up, deep imaging via stacking. Mostly overlaps with NewOpenAstro/Science/Projects/.

Science 3.md

A short tier list: Tier 2 science cases (variable stars, NEO astrometry, blazars, lunar impacts, interstellar objects). Stub — content already covered in NewOpenAstro/Science/Projects/Projects.md.

MUSE.md

Analysis of VLT/MUSE instrument and whether distributed amateur collection is possible. Conclusion: No — photon starvation and nanometer optical alignment make it infeasible. Distributed analysis of public MUSE data cubes (citizen science) has potential. Good for the Archive.

more long term idea.md

One note on gravitational lensing time-delay cosmography as a science case. Short; belongs in Idea Capture or the Projects list as a speculative entry.

Alright here we go the big brain dump.md

Not OpenAstro content. This is a personal brain dump about physics exam prep (Kirchhoff's laws, chemistry papers), haircare, and device management. No OpenAstro ideas here.

for my distributed telescope array... friction point.md

High-value content. 10 concrete strategies to reduce observer setup friction: 1. Plate-solve based "point anywhere, we'll fix it" pipeline — eliminates polar alignment requirement 2. Co-authorship incentive (50 hrs = acknowledgment, 200 hrs = co-author) 3. Passive mode: dark/flat frames only, no clear sky needed 4. Push alerts: "transient in your sky, 40 minutes to catch it" 5. Raspberry Pi kit — pre-flashed, one cable, auto-starts at nautical twilight 6. "Adopt a star" ownership model per participant 7. Seasonal campaigns (4–6 weeks) instead of year-round commitment 8. Morning digest showing overnight network achievement + your contribution % 9. Power users subsidize casuals — scheduler shows "network coverage 94%, you can relax" 10. Cubesat.md / Telescope shit.md / Split about telescope array.md

Unread — need processing pass.

Google Gemini (2).md

Likely a Claude/Gemini chat export. Unprocessed.

Traniset events.md / Telescope pointing.md / OpenASTRO Dashboard.md / OpenASTRO database schema.md

Root-level technical notes. The database schema note may have unique content vs. NewOpenAstro/Tech/Server Infrastructure/Details on componets.md.

Research queue. See also Stuff To look into/.

dump.mdIdea Capture/Problems that we will face.md

The Problems file is in Idea Capture (good). Covers scintillation, heterogeneity, timing sync, local systematics — the four core technical challenges.
